Santarelli Trophy - Joker Regatta 2005

Riva Del Garda, Italy

Germany's Hubert FRENZER won the Santarelli Trophy 2005 hosted by the Fraglia Della Vela on Riva del Garda, Italy, with second place going to Olivier CHABLAIS (SUI) and Raffi LEHNE (GER) and Alain MARCHAND (SUI) tied for third.

This year's Joker Regatta was contested between German and Swiss crews with no Italians on their home waters. The boats took a battering on the opening day of the regatta with high winds causing damage, including a demasting, and forcing several boats out of the races.

Such bad fortune was not suffered by FRENZER and his crew. After last year taking the silver medal the German returned to go one better.

Only one race was sailed on the final day yesterday and for FRENZER a third place was enough to secure victory and walk away with the Santarelli Trophy. Due to the rain, the Committee had to call all boats back in port. After the race, there was the prize giving on the San Pellegino Terrace, at the Fraglia club, and all the crews stated their intention to come back to Riva next year and once again battle for the title of Joker Regatta champion.
