Around Alone

Brad Van Liew on Tommy Hilfiger Freedom America crossed the finish line yesterday at 15:05:56 local time (02:05:56 GMT) in Tauranga, New Zealand.
Brad van Liew has won his third straight leg of the Around Alone race. This afternoon he sailed Tommy Hilfiger Freedom America across the finish line off Tauranga, and in doing so once more reinforced his dominance in Class 2. He sailed a masterful leg and pretty much annihilating his competiton.

While Brad was enjoying a cold beer in the race village, his nearest competitor Tim Kent on Everest Horizontal was just under a thousand miles from the finish.

After a slightly delayed start out of Cape Town, when a problem with his sails caused Tommy Hilfiger Freedom America to miss the start, Brad soon found his stride and moved into the lead. From then on he continued to build on that lead until it was insurmountable. The rest is history. At the press conference after the finish Brad credited his incredible yacht, his fantastic team and his sponsor for his victory; the rest of us credit Brad with his perfect tactics and skilled hand. He sailed a consistently good leg and won by a mile.
