Lake Garda served up its best yesterday with sparkling sunshine and steady breezes of 18-25 knots for the second day of racing in the four day Renault skiff.tv 49er Grand Prix.
With a big fetch, the conditions were quite rough, and many of the 15 starters tasted the snow-fed chill of the lake!
Star performer for the day was the Danish crew of Michael Hestbek and Dennis Andersen, finishing 3 pts clear of Italian brothers Piero and Gianfranco Sibello. Another 5 pts after them was Marc Audineau and Stephane Christidis of France.
Feeling no ill-effects from having his wisdom teeth removed yesterday, Manuel MODENA (ITA) and his brother Luca, scored two seconds and one third and move into the finals tomorrow in tenth place after not competing at all on the first day.
Placings from the 2 days of Qualification races will be carried through to the Finals and are counted as the first race. Prize money of Euro 5000 will be split between the top 9 placegetters in Riva, with a bonus being paid at the final event in Taiwan later in the year.
