An impressive line up of America's Cup sailors and celebrities from the worlds of sport and film will be sailing on some of Nautor's Swan's finest performance boats in the fourth Laureus Regatta held this year in Monte Carlo on 19-20 May.
The regatta is one of several high profile events being staged in the lead-up to the 2003 Laureus World Sports Awards to be held at the Grimaldi Forum on the evening of 20 May.
The Laureus Regatta has quickly risen to claim the title as one of the most glamorous events on the sailing calendar, providing a well respected match racing regatta within the 'Oscars' of the sporting world. Nautor's Swan has been involved with the event since its foundation in 1999, providing some of the world's most beautiful and exciting yachts to race. This year, Nautor's Swan is providing four Swan 45's, thanks to the generosity of their owners. This performance led Swan is already established as a one-design model with an exciting world-wide class that started this year.
The four Swan 45's will be truly put through their paces by a host of sailing 'legends including triple Olympic Gold medallist and Strategist for Alinghi, Jochen SCHUMANN (GER), Olympic Silver medallist and 2001 Laureus Regatta Winner, J.J. ISLER (USA), and Olympic Gold medallist Thierry PEPONNET (FRA), who is hoping to steer the French K-Challenge at the next America's Cup.
Six skippers in total will move around the boats, which are hosted by equally celebrated yachtsman. These will include Olympic Silver medallist Keith MUSTO (GBR), Graham WALKER (GBR), chairman of the British America's Cup challenge in 1986-87, Jonathan TAYLOR, crew member of GBR Challenge and Bernard LABRO, crew member of Alinghi. Accompanying the four 'racing' Swans will be two fine examples of Nautor's Swan's larger models - the Swan 70 and the Swan 82. Dreamcatcher, the newest Swan 70 and Solleone, a well raced and successful Swan 82, will be on hand to provide front row seats to Laureus World Sports Academy Members and celebrities, giving these spectators the chance to see world class sailors in action on world class yachts.
The Laureus Regatta is sanctioned by the International Sailing Federation and organised by the Yacht Club de Monaco from Le Meridien Beach Plaza. The winning skipper will receive the Panerai Trophy and a sparkling new Mercedes CLK200 Cabriolet, while each owner will receive a specially crafted limited edition Officine Panerai watch.
