Rolex IMS Offshore World Championship

The offshore race of the IMS Rolex World Championship started in Capri today at around 12.00 local time. ORLANDA-OLYMPUS got to the first mark in front of Naples (Castel dell'Ovo) very close to Gabriele Benussi's X-Sport.
At the start there was 8-9 knots of wind from the North-West; this breeze is expected to build to over 30 knots during the night.

The 64 boat fleet competing in the Rolex IMS World Championship, which started yesterday on the Island of Capri face their first night at sea tonight after yesterday's inshore racing.

Following the first mark off Naples, the fleet are then rounding Ischia Island to starboard, before heading to Gaeta, back round Ischia before sailing back past Capri, then heading towards Salerno before turning back and finally finishing at Capri. In total, they will race around 195 miles

"It will be a very hard competition" commented Tommaso CHIEFFI (ITA), helmsman of the ORLANDA-OLYMPUS, "and we'll have to do our best to beat our opponents".

ORLANDA-OLYMPUS actually is in the second place in group 1 after two races, run yesterday. First is Gabriele Benussi's X-Sport, and in the third place there is Pedro Campos Bribon Telefonica Movistar.

"We have worked very hard in these days to optimize our boat" says Alessandro Pirera, ORLANDA-OLYMPUS owner. "In the long race we'll see if our efforts have been rewarded".

In group 2 Vasco VASCOTTO, Italtel is in first; second is Lorenzo BRESSANI on Wind; third is Team Revolution.
