Vaurien European Championship 2005
Liptovská Mara, Slovak Republic

22 boats from seven nations met on the Liptovská Mara Dam in the Slovak Republic to contest the Vaurien European Championship at the end of August. Spain's Andrés and Rafael JIMÉNEZ claimed the gold medal with Joana MARQUES and Cátia CARDOSO (POR) finishing as the top women's team.
Good weather conditions allowed eleven races to be completed during the five days of competition with winds between 3 and 10 m/s.

As at the World Championship back in July, Spain triumphed. However whereas the competition at the Worlds held in Sanxenxo, Spain had featured a large contingent of Spanish sailors, Andrés and Rafael JIMÉNEZ were their nations only representative in Liptovská Mara. They won with an impressive display seeing them score four bullets and take victory by 13 points.

Behind them Jacob and Gosse DE BOER (NED) came in second just a point ahead of Italy's Francesco GRAZIANI and Marta DELLI.

The JIMÉNEZ and DE BOER teams also took the first two places in the Youth European Championship with Jan DEEN and Sander OOST (NED) taking the Youth bronze medal, after finishing in fourth place overall.

In seventh place overall, MARQUES and CARDOSO (POR) claimed the women's title with Natalia RIMMELE and Katrin BRENK (GER) second and Katarína ŠAŠKOVÁ and Ina VACLAVOVÁ (SVK) representing the home nation in third.
