They have been fighting all week. Yesterday Berkley Seguros-Nuria finished second and third while Max Power, the final series B winner, finished first and third.
This is the third time Berkley Seguros-Nuria has made the three-day trip, 2,800 km, all the way from Rosario, the second biggest city in Argentina, to participate in the Circuito Atlántico Sur Rolex Cup. SCHUJMAN says with a big smile, 'Once you come here, you always return.' Tommy Hilfinger and Marina are also form Rosario, where they race on the Parana river.
Personal Wins IMS
Jose Estevez SAMELA's (ARG) Personal won overall in IMS by finishing second today in series A, behind Roberto FABINI's (ARG) LGT Memo Memulini. Matador finished third today and kept her second place overall. In IMS, series B, Audi came back strongly by winning the Vuelta Gorriti, after having to abandon the previous day's race because a crash. But Patagonia 3 won series B by two points by finishing second.
IRC, series A, winner is a former IMS boat: Kirkor SIMSIROGLU's Funcei-San Gregorio, designed by Acier Soto ACEBAL. She was built in 2002 for the IMS class, won multiple races and got a total overhaul, including new mast to accommodate a 100 % J and new internal ballast, during 2006. Her skipper here is Guiliermo CASTRO, a famous Argentinean double-hander sailor who sailed in the 500 mile Buenos Aires-San Clemente-Punta del Este-Buenos Aires race.
The clearest winner in any of the classes was Toribio DE ACHAVAL's (ARG) Matrero, a German Frers 50 built in 1970. She finished 16 points ahead of La Ley On Line. Matrero is the Argentinean Admiral's Cup veteran who finished the disastrous 1979 Fastnet Race.
Jose Maria GIROD's (ARG) Charango Dos is sailing in the Circuito Atlántico Sur Rolex Cup for the first time, the crew is consisting of family and friends, three generations, with his 18 years old son steering. After finishing first in his series today and winning the ORC, series B, championship he mentioned, 'We concentrated on covering Bigua Delta, who went offshore and Brazilian Orson who followed the coast. At Punta Ballena we got together and stayed ahead of Orson, luckily they were not aggressive.'
The Circuito Atlántico Sur Rolex Cup 2007 concluded with a sumptuous prize giving party at the Hotel-Casino Conrad in Punta del Este.
