It was a busy third day for the crews on Lake Garda at the ISAF Grade C1 470 Europeans with three races completed across the men's and women's fleets.
Although they failed to match their double-bullet performance on Monday, the US team of
Amanda CLARK and
Sarah MERGENTHALER retained the lead in the women's fleet, whilst the consistency of
Javier CONTE and
Juan DE LA FUENTE (ARG) has put them top in the men's fleet.
CLARK and MERGENTHALER stay top amongst the 33 women's teams, but their overall lead has shrunk to just two points. They had an up-and-down day, starting with a third but then posting scores of 20 and 15.
Sylvia VOGL and
Carolina FLATSCHER (AUT) move into second place overall following a bullet in race 6 and 8,13 scores in the day's earlier races.
The top three is completed by the Aussie team of
Elise RECHICHI and
Tessa PARKINSON, who were the most consistent scorers over the day's three races, with two second places and a tenth putting them just ahead of
Emmanuelle ROL and
Anne-Sophie THILO (SUI). The world #2 crew of
Ai KONDO and
Naoko KAMATA (JPN) complete the top five.
Following Tuesday's three races amongst the 91 competing crews in the men's European Championship, the composition of the gold fleet has been decided. Argentina's CONTE and DE LA FUENTE had a great day with three top-three finishes (2,2,3) propelling them into a one-point overall lead. Monday's leaders,
Pierre LEBOUCHER and
Vincent GAROS (FRA) were similarly consistent with 3,5,1 scores and now lie second overall. The Dutch pairing of
Steven LE FEVRE and
Steven KROL lie third after scores of 2,1,2 for the day. It was also a good day for the other Dutch pairing of
Sven COSTER and
Kalle COSTER who posted two bullets to climb up to seventh overall.
