Australia's two top ranked match racing sailors from Pittwater, Nicky SOUTER and Katie SPITHILL, will headline the women's event and will take on teams from South Australia, Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.
'Match racing is one of the most spectacular forms of sailing to watch and I encourage as many spectators as possible to show their support for the event, and enjoy some of the closest boat on boat racing ever witnessed on Sydney Harbour,' said event organiser Jenni BONNITCHA.
'Anchoring your spectator boat on the pin end of the start line is the best way to witness the thrilling prestart manoeuvres and short course windward/leeward racing which will fully test umpires' nerves and rules knowledge as well as competitors' rules knowledge and boat handling skills,' BONNITCHA added.
The Line 7 Australian Women's Match Racing Championship will be conducted by the CYCA in Rushcutters Bay aboard the Club's Elliott 6s with the first day of the regatta, Wednesday 21 September, a scheduled training day followed by a formal welcome function that evening.
The on-water competition will begin in earnest this Thursday, 22 September, and will run through to Sunday 25 September with the finals coinciding with the Club's own Season Opening Day and Monica Geddes Sydney Harbour Islands Race on the 25th.
A full list of competitors and the racing schedule is available from the event webiste under 'Youth' and at the end of each day, results and news reports will be posted on the site.
