Paradise Seeks Coach

The ISAF National Authority in the Cook Islands, that idyllic part of the world east of Fiji, which in turn is east of Australia, is seeking a coach to work for several months each year.
Sailing Cook Islands needs a full time coach for several months each year to work with the sailors to advance a programme for the development of the Laser and Mistral as well as Optimist. Sailing Cook Islands has concentrated on development of the Optimist over the past years and now has a good base of young sailors and a strong Optimist fleet with new fibreglass boat . Sailing is active on Rarotonga Island as well as Palmerston Island, Manihiki and Aitutaki.

The aim is now to build up their competitive sailing especially in the Olympic classes. Cook Islands has entered the Oceania Optimist Champs over the past four years, and now have five or so sailors ready to move out of the Optimist.

Sailing Cook Islands is looking for a coach who would come and work in 2002. The job would be in four parts:
- to train the elite sailors for competition in 2002 Opti Worlds.
- to develop the Laser class
- to establish the boardsailing and Mistral class
- to manage the events program for National and International events planned for Cook Islands' sailors both in Rarotonga and the outer islands. These include an Olympic Solidarity program, Oceania Grand Prix boadsailing series, Tahiti Multi Class Challenge and a Round Rarotonga sailing event for allcomers.

Sailing Cook Islands would like to achieve a long term coaching contract .
