2002 IFDS World Disabled Sailing Championship
Medemblik

The Organising Committee of the 2002 IFDS World Disabled Sailing Championship in Medemblik, Holland have launched a fundraising campaign.
The Worlds are being held at the International Sailing Centre in Medemblik, Holland from 22-27 September 2002.

The Organising Committee have undertaken a project to secure sponsorship and funding for the 2002 Worlds, and whilst sponsors have already come on board for this prestigious event which will be the first qualification regatta for the Paralympics, further funding is sought.

Speaking on the fundraising to date achieved, Chairman of the International Foundation for Disabled Sailing (IFDS), Ian Harrison, commented: "We are grateful to the 2002 Worlds Organising Committee to have sought and secured this funding which will be used to further enhance the Championship". He went on to say, "IFDS is very much looking forward to the Worlds which will be the first of only two qualification regattas for the 2004 Paralympic Regatta."

There is tremendous enthusiasm both in Medemblik and for Holland to be hosting this event, and the Organising Committee hopes to tap into this enthusiasm and turn their attention to the sailing public of Holland to provide donations. Information on the fundraising campaign is available on the event website, via the link indicated below.

The 2002 IFDS World Disabled Sailing Championship will be sailed in the equipment used for the Paralympic Regatta, being the single-handed 2.4mR and the three-person Sonar. The 2002 Worlds will see 7 Paralympic qualification places for the 2.4mR and similarly 7 qualification places for the Sonar up for grabs. These places will be granted to the nation, with the nations then responsible to determine which sailors take the slots.

The entry deadline for this event is 1 August 2002 and sailors are advised to confirm their entry as soon as possible.

Please be aware that accessible accommodation has been reserved, but any unconfirmed rooms will be released on 15 May 2002. Therefore it is strongly recommended that you confirm reservations as soon as possible. Please note that there are just 5 bungalows left with rooms at street level for sailors in wheelchairs. Accommodation forms are available on the event website.
