Farr 40 Mediterranean Championship
Naples

ISAF Vice-President George Andreadis (GRE) sailed outstandingly to win this first event of the Mediterranean Championship.
George Andreadis and his crew, including 1984 Soling Gold Medallist Robbie Haines (USA) as tactician dominated the first of this series of Mediterranean Championship events, winning even the last three races.

Olympic sailors abounded with Ian Percy (GBR) sailing as tactician on the second placed German boat Struntje Light, closely followed by the President of the Mediterranean Fleet, Alberto Signorini on Sylphea.

The second event in this series of three will be held in Porquerolles off Hyeres, France from 16-19 May, followed by the final event in Porto Rotondo, Italy from 27-30 June 2002.

The fleet sailed a 1.7 mile long course in the Bay of Naples, with conditions during the four-day event being as would be expected for the Med, 8-14 knots winds, hot and sunny.

The racing was close during the 9 race event, with different boats claiming the first 6 races, leaving Atalanti to take the final three bullets.
