2002 sees the Federacao Portuguesa de Vela (FPV) celebrating 75 years since the date of its foundation on 19 April 1927.
The FPV will be following the tradition of the diamond wedding anniversary to celebrate the occasion of 19 April, and throughout the year 2002.
The FPV held a celebration on 19 April at the Navy Museum, attended by many sailing personalities and in the presence of the new Portuguese Secretary of State for Sports.
The FPV chose this occasion to honour ex-President of the FPV, Antonio Roquette, in recognition of the support he has given to sailing over the years, by announcing that he become Honorary President of the Federation.
The FPV is a non profitable organisation which has been associated to the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), since 1928.
FPV's main goals are to promote, represent and co-ordinate sailing as a sport, in Portugal.
