470 European Championship

Yesterday was the first day of racing in gold and silver fleets for the male competitors at the 470 European championships, Estonia, with the women continuing to sail as one fleet.

All of the competitors experienced more wind than they have had so far this week, with the wind increasing as the day went on, causing very shifty and gusty sailing conditions with a big thunderstorm which timed itself well to erupt after racing had been completed.

In the women's fleet Vladeline Ilienko/Diana Krutskih of Russia continue to dominate the class with half the points of second placed Sofia Bekatorou/Emilia Tsoulfa of Greece. Olympic gold medallists and ISAF World Champions Jennifer Armstrong/Belinda Stowell of Australia move up in to third place overall after scoring a fourth and a second place in the days races.

In the men's gold fleet, Sydney Olympians Dmitry Berezkin/Mikhail Kroutikov of Russia continue to lead the fleet by two points from Nicolas Charbonnier/Stephane Christidis of France. Kiel Week winners Nathan Wilmot/Malcolm Page of Australia have moved up into third place.

Six more races are scheduled to be sailed with racing concluding on Saturday 3 August.
