Vaurien World Championship

Blue sky; fresh wind with 15 knots and sea with 1.5 to 2 metre swell, with just one race completed so far the sailors were anxious to demonstrate their abilities in Póvoa. In the end three races were completed in just four hours.

The first race started at 11h00, with Eliseu Belzunce & M. Alvarez (ESP) passing the upwind mark in first position. Followed closely by F.Graziani&M.Delli (ITA), and P. Bolina&A . Gonçalves (POR). In the second lap, the Spanish got away from the fleet. In the battle between the Graziani (ITA) and Bolina (POR), the Portuguese and finished ahead in second place.

The second race in the same sea and wind conditions, Eliseu Belzunce (ESP) did not give a chance to the others opponents and finished a long way ahead of second positioned G.Galassini&A .Lami (ITA), followed by M.Piccinetti&E.Meucci (ITA).

In women's fleet, the battle was between the Spanish and Dutch, T.Echegoyem&C. Giraldo(ESP) win, followed by O . Munoz&J.Ayastuy (ESP) in second and M.Faber&J.Faber(NED) in third.

The Spanish supremacy is noted also in the junior fleet, J.Amaliach&M.Amaliach (ESP) won the second race of the day.

The third and last race happened in a more choppy sea, and the wind stayed at 15 knots with gusts of 18 knots. Once more the Spanish team won, although they opted for a strategic defence, on the way from buoy no. 1 to buoy no. 2, they only pushed up the spinnaker when the second positioned G.Galassini&A .Lami (ITA), threatened their lead.

In junior fleet, the changes continue between the top three, Dutch, Italians and Spanish. This time it was H.Haven & M.Haven (NED) who finished in first place.

In womens fleet, the Spanish and Dutch shared the top positions with O. Munoz& J.Ayastuy (ESP) crossing the finished line in first place.

After 4 races the leadership of Eliseu Belzunce&M. Alvarez (ESP) is evident, all the races. In second and third positions are the Italians G.Galassini & A .Lami (ITA) and Portuguese P. Bolina & A. Gonçalves (POR), respectively.

In women's fleet in the top positions are T.Echegoyem & C. Giraldo (ESP), O . Munoz & J.Ayastuy (ESP) and M.Faber & J.Faber (NED), respectively.

In junior fleet, a different country are in the first three places, namely, J.Amaliach&M.Amaliach (ESP), H.Haven&M.Haven (NED) and F. Granchi &C.Simoncelli (ITA).

Women and junior results from the event website, but were not available in full at the time of writing.
