Yesterday at a meeting held in the the Town Hall in Marseille, France, the Mediterranean Sailing Association was formally constituted.
The President of the Federation Francaise de Voile (FFV), Jean Pierre Champion, was elected as the President of the Mediterranean Sailing Association, with Michel Barbier (FRA) appointed to the role of Secretary General. The Vice-President is Cheki Nouira (TUN), with committee members Bernard d'Alessandri (MON) and Hakim Elwaer (LBA).
With support from Marseille town hall, the Association will set up an office in Marseille.
The meeting was attended by ISAF President Paul Henderson, who has given ISAF's support to this project. The European Sailing Federation (EUROSAF) has also expressed its congratulations on the setting up of this association.
The aims of this new Association are to promote sailing in the Mediterranean basin, with the more developed sailing countries helping to provide support to the less developed.
