Laser European Championship
Vallensbaek

Three races were sailed at the Laser European Championships yesterday, on the final day of qualifying for the gold and silver fleets. Race one and two were sailed in 8-12 knots of breeze and the final race took place in a dying breeze.
The lack of stability meant that the youth fleet only had one race. After the second start of the first senior group the wind was shifting to such an extend that the Principle Race Officer decided to abandon the race, and send the Youths back to the harbour.

However it was a long day for the seniors of seven and a half hours at sea, and three races completed.

Gustavo Lima (POR) was not complaining about the third race though since he came in first in his group. That result placed him as third in the overall rankings. Nor Paul Goodison (GBR) who climbed from 23rd to 5th in the overall rankings. Fredrik Lassenius (SWE) had a very good day. Lassenius is now in the top-spot after he came in as fourth, first and fourth in the three races of the day.

"I had a bad start but I sailed conservative which helped me," the Swede explained.

The Swedes are dominating the top of the race in second position is Karl Suneson who is also from Sweden.

STOP PRESS There has been no racing today at the Laser European Championships. Racing was due to begin at 11:00 hours, but by 14:00 hours it became apparent that there would not be enough wind to race today and racing was abandoned for the day. This leaves just one more day of finals racing at the championship tommorrow.
