Vaurien World Championship
Povoa do Varzim

The dawn arrived calm in Marina da Póvoa, but the fog decided to appear at 10h00, to close completely a few moments after. Then, the sun cleared the fog and the day became more pleasant for sailing.

The boats went to the water at 13h30, to begin the practice race. When they passed the first buoy the teams from Spain and Italy were in front of the fleet.

The wind started to increase in the afternoon, and the fleet decided to return at 16:00h. It was visible in the faces of the sailors the experience of sea and wind characteristics in this part of Portuguese cost.

For the European champion 2002, E. Belzunce, this will be a championship very close and without any doubt the Spanish and Italian teams, may share the first positions in the podium. From today's experience in the race field, Belzunce said "is a complicated race field, especially because of the high waves, sometimes without direction ."

The Portuguese national champions, Duarte Logarinho & Ricardo Cardoso, playing in their field, commented "The sea and wind conditions of Póvoa are not a surprise for us. In the last months we have sailed in these waters". Logarinho cautiously does not predict any result, but said that "this year we are better prepared, but the teams from Spain and Netherlands have very strong fleets in number and quality, only in water we will know more. "
