Optimist European Championship
Tavira

264 sailors (173 boys and 91 girls) are entered from 37 countries.

In the boys event Joaquin Blanco (ESP), who so delighted his home club in Gran Canaria by winning last year's event, is just one point adrift from Amit Brorman of Israel, with Italy's Dario Motta a further point behind.

In the girls' event Tina Mihelic of Croatia has established an early lead. Croatian boys in the past month have placed 1 & 2 in the Optimist Worlds and won the Laser 4.7, Radial Youth and Radial Open Worlds, so maybe she has her sights set high. The best placed sailor and silver medallist from last year Marieke Jongens (NED) lies currently 7th and an eye should be kept on Nordic champion Rebecka Harding (SWE) who has scored 28/4/6 so far.
