In the 49er Erik Heil and Thomas Ploessel (GER) finally struck gold after finishing third in 2012 and second in 2013. "After the rankings three and two it was our goal to continue the series", said Heil. David Evans and Ed Powys (GBR) took silver, followed by Jacopo Plazzi and Umberto Molineris (ITA) in bronze.
Annina Wagner and Elisabeth Panuschka (GER) took the women's 470 down to the wire with a neck and neck battle with Lara Vadlau and Jolanta Ogar (AUT). The Germans prevailed in the Medal Race to take the win. Nadine Boehm and Ann-Christin Goliass (GER) rounded out the podium.
In the Laser Radial, a Medal Race win gave Tatiana Drozdovskaya (BLR) just twelve points and the top spot on the podium In second place, despite finishing last in the Medal Race was Lisa Fasselt (GER) on 30 points. Pauline Liebig (GER) completes the podium in third.
Italians Vittorio Bissaro and Silvia Sicouri (20 points) sailed a consistent regatta with a Medal Race win to secure the gold medal from Allan Noerregard and Line Just (DEN). Lorenzo Bressani and Giovanna Micol defended the bronze medal with a third in the Medal Race.
It went down to the wire in the Finn fleet with a Medal Race show down between Deniss Karpak (EST) and Björn Allasson (SWE). Karpak clinched it by winning the race to tie on points with Allasson and take the gold. Allasson finishes with the silver medal and Giorgio Poggi (ITA) the bronze.
In the 49er FX Tamara Echegayen and Berta Betanzos (ESP) came out on top against Jena Hansen and Katja Salskov-Iversen (DEN). "We did not expect this. Kieler Woche is an important regatta and the conditions with changing winds were very difficult in the past days", said Echegayen. Victoria Jurczok and Anika Lorenz (GER) won bronze.
In the men's 470, Panagiotis Mantis and Pavlos Kagialis (GRE) finished third in the Medal Race to hold on to the gold medal. Jasper Wagner and Dustin Baldewein (GER) claimed the race win and with it a move up the rankings to the silver medal position ahead of Mathew Belcher and Will Ryan (AUS).
No-one could take away the leading position from the German sailors and London 2012 Paralympic silver medalists in the 2.4mR and Sonar, Heiko Kroeger and Jens Kroker,Robert Prem and Siggi Mainka respectively.
The international classes start racing on Thursday, sailing until Sunday.
