Sail the Gulf 2002

The 11th Qatar International Sailing Regatta (Sail The Gulf 2002), the 4th Arab Sailing Championship and the First Arab Gulf States Sailing Championship drew to a close yesterday.
The event concluded with a glittering prize-giving ceremony and presentation dinner at the Doha Sailing Association.

In the presence of Qatar Marine Sports Federation President, H.E. Sheikh Nawaf Bin Nasser Bin Khaled Al Thani, DSA Commodore Sami Abu Shaikha addressed the assembled VIPs, guests, participants, officials and organisers.

Sailors from 27 countries participated in the 3 events, for Laser Radials, Laser Standard, 470, Optimist and Catamaran Classes. H.H. Sheikh Khaled Bin sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan from the UAE was among the sailors, while the DSA was also pleased to welcome H.E. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, President of the Arab Sailing Federation, and Mr Saeed Zada, its General Secretary.

Thanking Qatar's Emir and Heir Apparent for their support, the DSA Commodore - who is also Secretary General of the Marine Sports Federation - praised all those who participated in the three championships or helped with the organisation of the events.

Trophies were awarded in each class of the three championships, while certificates of appreciation were also presented to those involved.
