Sardinia Cup
Porto Cervo, Sardinia

The penultimate day of racing in the thirteenth edition of the Sardinia Cup 2002, sponsored by Volkswagen, Marina Yachting and the Sassari Chamber of Commerce was won by team USA.
Yesterday's race started with a little bit of a delay due to unstable weather conditions. In the program were two upwind/downwind courses each about 8 miles long, both raced in no more than 6 knots of easterly wind. After a regular start, the leader in the IMS division was "Giacomelli Sport" followed by "QQ7-Profit" and "BravaQ8", while in the Farr 40 division, the Americans led the way with "Bambakou" (owned by John Coumantaros) who preceded "Nela" and "Norwegian Steam". The American team, is now in first place in the overall classifications ( after yesterdays excellent racing) , in front of "North Sea" and "Italy yellow". The sixth race was eventually won by Benussi and Coumantaros for both IMS and Farr 40 divisions.

The second race of today for the IMS division ( seventh race for this edition of the Sardinia Cup 2002) was finally awarded to "Bribon Telefonica Movistar" belonging to His Highness Juan Carlos the King of Spain, followed by "Giacomelli Sport" and "Aurora". For the Farr 40 division "Bambakou" on the podium again, beating "Wind" and "Telefonica Movistar".

Based on the results of today, the leader in the final classifications of today is team USA, second place for "North Sea" and "Italy Yellow".

The closing ceremony will be held this evening, after the last day of racing, in Piazza Azzurra, with the presence of his Majesty Prince Aga Khan. The ceremony begins at 18:30. The folk group from "Oristano City" will present a show after the ceremony.
