Rolex Cup - Maxi Worlds
Porto Cervo

Since the breaking of the new day, as the various teams and sailors were arriving on the docks, the hope that the weather conditions were going to change was increasing.

Many were relying on wind coming from north-west, but it did not show up. So a very light wind came in its place, repeating the weather conditions of yesterday with strength of up to 6 knots. This light wind, a complete disappointment, placed all the yachts that are participating in the thirteenth edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2002, event organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, on the starting line. The route chosen by the race committee ran along the coast of Porto Cervo, and it was of great interest to all the tourists who tried to follow this spectacular race of Maxi Yachts along the waters of the Costa Smeralda. These races will surely be enriched with suggestive images if, weather permitting, the forecasts hold true for Friday and Saturday, last two days of racing for this event.

A very quiet race, the one that was held today ( the second expected in the calendar of events), which was dominated, yet another time, by the same teams of yesterday. The first yacht to cross the finish line for the IMS division was Morning Glory belonging to the German Hasso Plattner, which preceded Raffaele Raiolas Idea/SAI, followed by Pigi Loro Piana's "My Song and "Alexia".

In non corrected time, for the Wally division were: "Tiketitan, "Magic Carpet, and "Genie of the Lamp and for the Cruising division were Unfurled, followed by Antonisa and Adela.

The final results for this second day of racing, after the compensated times show the winner to be Alberto Roemmers with his "AlexiaÅh (which strengthens the first place won by him yesterday), followed by the Dutch Van Vemde with "Sotto Voce and Carlo Perrone's "Virtuelle". For the Wally division, the winner is "Askherout" followed by "Magic Carpet" and "Tuamata" which has a very notable helms man, Vasco Vascotto, recent winner of the last Champions Cup, held here in Porto Cervo. For the Crusing division the winners of today were "Antonisa", "Unfurled" and "Adela".

Based on the results of today, after the two races held in this event, we see the following yachts as the leaders in each division; for the IMS category the leader is Alexia belonging to Alberto Roemmers Jr., for the Wally division "Magic Carpet" and for the Cruising division "Antonisa". Tomorrow the third race, always a coastal race, will take place and on Thursday.
