Over twenty different nations will be represented, with five or more officials coming from France, Great Britain, Sweden and the USA, a good representation from Australia and New Zealand and others from as far a field as Bermuda, Croatia, the US Virgin Islands and Japan.
ISAF has arranged the seminar so that experienced umpires can work with newer members to offer ideas and solutions to common problems encountered on the water. Jan STAGE (DEN), Chairman of the International Umpire's Sub-Committee (IUSC) will chair the meeting and lead a series of presentations which will focus on the following topics:
Group work will focus on issues involved at match and team racing events, Rule 14 hearings, scoring and tie breaking and a review of the forms, checklists and the match racing manual from a Chief Umpire persepctive.
Following the seminar will be The Performance Assessors Workshop lasting until 14 March.
All officials wanting to graduate to the level of International Umpire must undergo a performance assessment. Currently only the seminar instructors can perform these and ISAF is looking to expand this level to meet the need to conduct assessments outside of seminars.
The workshop will focus on training participants to carry out performance assessments, providing feedback to those being assessed as well as looking at the performance assessment criteria themselves.
The objective of the workshop is to increase the current level of performance assessors worldwide. Immediately after the end of the workshop the attending members of the International Umpires Sub-Committee will meet to recommend the appointment of new performance assessors to the Race Officials Committee
