The Chairman of Yachting New Zealand announced today that following an international search the Board has secured New Zealand based, Des BRENNAN to take the position of Chief Executive.
'We're very pleased to have secured Des who brings aboard a wide range of experience in management and sound sporting knowledge to our organisation' comments Stewart.

'Des inherits the role at a time when his skills and background are very well suited to the growth we have planned over the coming years as we embark on a new Strategic Plan. In Des we have recruited someone with skills and experience in management and marketing that combined with his enthusiasm for sport will ensure we get the best possible results for our key stakeholders'.

Brennan brings to Yachting New Zealand considerable experience in management and business leadership of both commercial and not-for-profit organisations leaving a role as a Principal of 'Traffic' a management consulting group in Auckland. Brennan's recent management posts include International Manager for Montana Wines and General Manager of Auckland Showgrounds.

Brennan also has recent experience in governing a World leading sports organisation having been a Director for three years of Netball New Zealand during their successful World Championship campaign, a position he holds today.

Brennan's background also adds marketing skills going forward for Yachting New Zealand having formerly held marketing positions for TVNZ (Director of Sales and Marketing) where he was heavily involved in yachting sponsorship for the 1992, 1995 and 2000 America's Cup Challenge and the Grant DALTON led Endeavour Whitbread Around the World Yacht Race campaign. He has also been involved in Fletcher Wood Panels (Marketing Director) and General Manager of Anchor Foods.

'I'm pleased to have come through a rigorous search on top and I'm really looking forward to being a key part of the team pursuing the goals and living the strategy of Yachting New Zealand' says Brennan. 'I'm very keen to apply my skills to the work done to date to develop the plans and strategies for Yachting New Zealand. New Zealand yachting has an outstanding history of achievement and adventure and I look forward to coming aboard as Chief Executive and to help the team lead yachting in New Zealand'.

Brennan describes himself as a casual yachtie with an interest that grew from early days of teaching his children to sail while working in England. 'Salt has been in our family's blood since my Great Grandfather manned a light house off the coast of Ireland and it's great to be involved once more in yachting'.

Brennan will start at Yachting New Zealand on February 7 and replaces Simon WICKHAM who is moving on to a new role as Chief Executive of the Trusts Stadium in Waitakere City.
