Race 2 was started in ten knots but by the time all fleets had crossed the finish line, the breeze had dropped to 5-6 knots. For Race 3 the wind direction swung to the west and steadily filled to 7 knots but eased off and went south causing the tail enders to finish on a reach in 5-6 knots.
Racing concluded for the day just after 19:00 but the sailors arrived ashore content and in good spirits after an enjoyable if long first session on the water. In the Radial Fleet young Olivia POWRIE (NZL) a new youth sailor to the laser class gave the top women a shock to win the first race of the day. Jo ALEH (NZL got two guns in the races to follow, with Krystal WEIR (AUS) close on her heels
A magnificent Muritai sailing breeze kicked in at midday building to a 15-20 knot steady breeze from the NW as the fleet amassed for their first start of the day. Under a cloudless oceanic sky Day Three looked promising.
Race Four got away uneventfully for all fleets. With the lead changing several times amongst the top 3 sailors, Matt BLAKEY managed to sail thru the fleet after mis-timing the start to win the race from Murdoch who was relishing the fresher conditions.
For Race Five the breeze remained a steady North westerly 15-20 knots and another uneventful start with good clean racing. The top bunch of eight in the open were close all the way round with them rounding the last mark bow to stern. After a shifty last beat, Murdoch prevailed to continue his march up the table after an indifferent first day. Weaver came through to second to continue his consistent run of results.
With the breeze freshening slightly by Race Six, the top sailors were able to drag race away off the start and set up a familiar result sheet. Murdoch again showed the way through, showing some upwind dominance in the fresh and choppy conditions. Blakey consolidated his lead overall finishing second behind Murdoch and Weaver came through for another third.
After several general recalls the fleet finally got away for Race Seven under the regattas first black flag. Blakey led around the first top mark but Bullot showed his downwind edge to take and establish a lead he never relinquished. Murdoch's charge through the fleet was stymied on the first reach when he got a yellow flag, but still managed to claw back to 6th. After a close tussle with Blakey and Blair McLay, Robbie McMillan squeezed through to second.
