ISAF Secretariat News
ISAF is delighted to announce that Antonio González de la Madrid (ESP) has been appointed as the new ISAF Sailing World Cup Manager. ISAF received 22 applications for this new role from around the world from people with a very wide range of sailing and international event organisation experience.
Alastair Fox, ISAF Head of Competitions said "There was a great deal of interest in the ISAF Sailing World Cup manager role and ISAF went through an extensive interview process before finalising its choice. To shortlist the candidates has been hard, but it was even harder at the very end due to the great presentations that some candidates made during the final interview. Antonio was an invaluable member of the ISAF International Technical Official team at the London 2012 Olympic Games and I am sure that he is the right person to help develop the ISAF Sailing World Cup and to help promote Olympic sailing around the world.'
The new format of the ISAF Sailing World Cup will begin in Melbourne in December 2012 before heading to Europe (a North American event is not yet confirmed). In October 2013 a new Asian event will be introduced in Qingdao with ISAF also seeking to expand the event to Africa and the Middle East where we are still in contact with one of the bidders.
Antonio has been working as the ISAF Competitions Manager where he has been responsible for Race Officials as well as acting as the ISAF Technical Delegate for the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship, the ISAF Women's Match Racing World Championship and the ISAF Team Racing World Championship. Antonio is an ISAF International Race Officer and has a great deal of experience running major international events as well as having a unique understanding of ISAF rules and regulations.
