Kontides Wins The Day But Slingsby Ends On Top
Pavlos Kontides doubled up with two race wins
Pavlos Kontides doubled up with two race wins

London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition
Weymouth and Portland, Great Britain

Pavlos Kontides (CYP) beat four-time world champion Tom Slingsby (AUS) across the line in the first race and had a clean win in the second race too, which means he is now just four points off the overall leading position.
The first race win for Kontides was by just five seconds to Slingsby (AUS) but in the second race he held a comfortable lead throughout the race and edged Paul Goodison (GBR) into second.

Goodison made his best start of the regatta in that race but was unable to match the speed of Kontides who cruised home in first.

Overnight leader Slingsby (AUS) had a poor start in the second race and struggled to work his way out the top 20 in the early stages of the race. He did eventually manage to pull back into sixth - just enough to keep him at the top of the fleet in the overall scorings. Simon Groteluschen (GER) was third overall in the second race.

Lasers resume racing on 1 August at 12:10 local time on the Weymouth Bay West course.
