Other teams with a 100% win rate are Anna Tunnicliffe (USA) and Ekaterina Skudina (RUS). The Russians who had missed the round robins qualification both at the Rolex Miami OCR and at the Trofeo Sofia Mapfre in Palma have increased their chance to be selected for the Gold fleet after three straight wins in their group.
In group B, three teams are sharing the top scores with three wins: Lucy Macgregor (GBR), Anne-Claire Le Berre (FRA) and Genevieve Tulloch (USA). In the last group, Katie Spithill (AUS) and Samantha Osborne (NZL) have collected four victories. 66 races are still remaining to complete the first round robin.
Of the five classes who have sailed on day one, the French teams of Xavier Rohart and Pierre-Alexis Ponsot in the Star and the Sonar team of Bruno Joudrain have won their races. In the Laser, only two groups managed a race, won by Andreas Andreas Geritzer (AUT) and Josh Junior (NZL) respectively. Helena Lucas took the bullet in the 2.4m Paralympic class.
Women's Match Racing a first in Hyères
For the first time, the Women's Match Racing event, a new addition on the Olympic programme has been included in Hyères. Collaboration with the Trofeo Sofia Mapfre in Palma, has allowed for the lease of eight Elliott 6 boats. Four belong to the Real Federacion Espanola de Vela and the other four have been leased in France.
"We received lots of entries for this new event, but could only accept 24," explains, event manager, Bernard Bonneau. "Unfortunately, two Chinese teams couldn't come because of flight problems."
The 22 teams have been divided into three groups of 8, 7 and 7. They meet on Sunday and Monday, for qualification. After two days of round robins, the top two teams will go straight into the quarter finals.
Match-Racing PRO, Christophe Gaumont has scheduled to run 186 races to complete the programme.
"They are very small courses. We need to constantly adapt the course and the marks with every wind change."
