Race 6 and the final race of the 2005 Star World Championship was begun under sunny skies and winds from E/SE 120° at 8 knots at the start and building to 14 knots by the third mark rounding.
As could be expected some Stars have withdrawn and a port - starboard situation forced the retirement of the USA team of Claude BONANNI and Richard BURGESS. The rest of the race was a battle betweeen Xavier
ROHART and Pascal RAMBEAU (FRA), Iain
PERCY and Steve MITCHELL (GBR) and Torben
GRAEL and Marcelo FERREIRA (BRA). They where far away of the rest of the fleet but where followed closely by the defending champions from Sweden Freddy
LÖÖF and Anders EKSTRÖM who had a extraordinary race, passing the first mark in 23rd position and ending the raceand the championship in fourth. It was the British team of
PERCY and MITCHELL who eventually took the bullet in this final race, their second of the championship. Finally able to discard their DNF from race one,
PERCY and MITCHELL shot up the rankings to end the championship in third overall with 19 points.
ROHART and RAMBEAU did enough to secure second in the final race to end the championship on just ten points. An excellent, consistent performance from the French team saw them only once finish outside the top three.
GRAEL and FERREIRA had to settle for third in the final race but had done enough to secure second overall. Newcomer to the Star Class and one that the veterans will surely have an eye on is Laser legend Robert
SCHEIDT (BRA) who has teamed up with Bruno PRADA (BRA) with a view to switching to the Star for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
SCHEIDT and PRADA had an extremely creditable championship, finishing in sixth overall and picking up a bullet in race six.
There was a lot of exicitement and lot's of spectators watching this final dual ROHART and GRAEL but it was the consistency of ROHART which ultimately paid off.

The Championship was deemed a great success, with great races, magnificent winds and excellent organisation.
