Argentina and Brazil secured places at Singapore 2010 in the Boy's and Girl's Windsurfer and One Person Dinghy events at the latest Youth Olympic Games Qualifier in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
The weather was the only winner on the final day of racing at the 2010 Techno 293 and Byte CII South American Championships, continental qualifier for the four sailing events at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games. Although there was no rain (during the week of competition Sao Paulo has experienced its heaviest rainfall in 60 years) hot and humid conditions prevailed and unfortunately... no wind. The overnight results stand with Bautista Saubidet Birkner (ARG) and Valentina Serigos (ARG) declared Under 17 Techno 293 South American Champions. Those two sailors have also qualified Argentina for the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore; along with Brazil thanks to Felipe Beltran (BRA) and Wendy Stockler Soares (BRA).

Top finisher in "open" division was Maximo Sergio (ARG) and in the under 15 division was Francisco Saubidet Birkner (ARG).

In the Byte CII event, Alexander Elstrodt (BRA) took the overall title ahead of Michael Louzada (BRA) and also secured Brazil’s YOG qualification. Juan Ignacio Biava (ARG) finished in third to give Argentina the second qualification spot. The Girl’s qualification places also went to Brazil and Argentina, thanks to Claudia Mazzaferro (BRA) in fifth and Solewe Crepin (ARG) in seventh.

Windsurfer World Qualifier

The venue, and host club, for the Techno 293 World Qualifier has now been confirmed as Lega Navale Civitavecchia, Rome, Italy. The dates have been moved forward by one day, and the event will now take place between 5-10 April 2010.

The Notice of Race will be published very soon and can be found on the class website with details of the remaining continental qualifiers: www.techno293.org.

Full details of the qualification system and qualified nations date are available on ISAF's dedicated YOG microsite www.sailing.org/yog.
