International One Design World Championship 2005
Fjærholmen, Norway

Tønsberg Seilforening, Norway, is hosting the World Championship for International One Design (IOD) yachts from 23-28 July 2005. This will be the fourth time the IOD Championship has taken place in Norway and ten years since it was last hosted by Tønsberg Seilforening with the anniversary to be celebrated during the Championship.
A total of 14 teams will compete during the event, with the majority of the teams coming from the USA. Norway is represented by one team with skipper Jan Petter RØED and crew Martin RYGH, Arnt Walter ØHRE and Esben GLAD. RØED and his team has plenty of experience sailing the IOD yachts, with success at past Worlds including a silver medal. Other strong teams include last year's winner Kevin FARRAR and Bill WIDNALL, a nine time World Champion.

IOD World Championship has been arranged since 1959 with Norwegian teams participating and competing on high level since the beginning, Team Fred OLSEN has two victories whilst the last Norwegian win came in Marblehead in 2001 courtesy of Dag USTERUD.

The IOD is a classic sail yacht, designed and built originally in 1936 and the majority of the yachts have ports in USA and Scandinavia. Major efforts has been undertaken to promote the IOD yachts internationally and RØED has been a leading figure in this respect.

The yachts participating have been sourced from various ports in Scandinavia and according to rules and class regulations the yachts will be distributed to skippers based on a toss-up.

The Championship will start on Saturday with registration and a formal opening ceremony. The first two races will take place on Sunday with the programme calling for a total of seven races. The regatta courses will be at Huikjala and Husøyflaket close to shore enabling easy access both for sailors and spectators.
