IOD World Championship has been arranged since 1959 with Norwegian teams participating and competing on high level since the beginning, Team Fred OLSEN has two victories whilst the last Norwegian win came in Marblehead in 2001 courtesy of Dag USTERUD.
The IOD is a classic sail yacht, designed and built originally in 1936 and the majority of the yachts have ports in USA and Scandinavia. Major efforts has been undertaken to promote the IOD yachts internationally and RØED has been a leading figure in this respect.
The yachts participating have been sourced from various ports in Scandinavia and according to rules and class regulations the yachts will be distributed to skippers based on a toss-up.
The Championship will start on Saturday with registration and a formal opening ceremony. The first two races will take place on Sunday with the programme calling for a total of seven races. The regatta courses will be at Huikjala and Husøyflaket close to shore enabling easy access both for sailors and spectators.
