Warnemuende Week 2005
Warnemuende, Germany

Australia's Tom SLINGSBY (AUS) has adding the ISAF Grade 2 Laser Europa Cup to his growing list of titles after the conclusion of racing in the Warnemuende Week in Germany.
The win gives SLINGSBY his fourth victory in 2005, a remarkable feat considering before the start of the year he had never won an ISAF Graded event. The Australian now looks set to once again leap up the ISAF World Sailing Rankings, with the top five looking like a strong possibility.

After an awful first race SLINGSBY secured four top three finishes to win by a massive 25 points over Simon GROTELÜSCHEN (GER). The 19 year old German risked everything on the last day of racing and ended up getting black flagged in the final race but was still very happy with his overall performance. 'It certainly surprised me that things worked out so well, even with considerable light wind,' admitted the promising youngster. Johan WIGFORSS took third place for Sweden.

The other Olympic class events in Warnemünde were classed as ISAF Grade 3.

Victory in the open fleet in the Laser Radial went to Jon EMMETT (GBR). Belarus' two time Olympian, Tatiana DROZDOVSKAYA came second and finished as the highest women, with Russia's Anatasia CHERNOVA just a point behind her in third.

2004 Olympic silver medallists Ruslana TARAN, Anna KALININA and Svetlana MATEVUSHEVA (UKR) were a class apart in the Yngling fleet, taking four bullets and three second places on their way to a comfortable win. Germany's Ulrike SCHÜMANN, Runa KAPPEL and Ute HÖPFNER came in second, with Sharon FERRIS, Raynor SMEAL and Ashley HOLTUM (NZL) in third.
