There was a tantalizing atmosphere at the last day of the X99 World Championship. Two teams had a shot at the World title with Team Velux only a few points behind the leaders, Estonia's Alexela. The first race of the final day began with a perfect start by the Danish helmsman Flemming FJORD. Team Velux managed to hold on to their lead to take the bullet whilst, Alexela, helmed by Mati SEPP, could only manage tenth place.

The second race was much tighter with Team Velux leading once more, but Alexela in second. At the leeward mark the two teams choose different paths, a result which eventually was to decide victory for Team Velux.

In the final race the Danish crew on Team Velux knew a win would secure them victory if Alexela did not finish second. The Danes got off to a great start whilst their rivals were bogged down. With the advantage of being in clear winds they raced to their third straight win, and behind them Alexela crossed the line in fifth meaning the World title went to Denmark. The Danish team of Peter BOLVIG came third overall.
