BUNDOCK And ASHBY Off To A Perfect Start

There were few surprises in the final three qualifying races at the Formula 18 World Championship in Hoek van Holland, Rotterdam, Netherlands yesterday. Australia's Darren BUNDOCK and Glenn ASHBY (AUS) top the leaderboard after a string of five bullets.

Tuesday's racing saw three fantastic heats under short choppy waves and a strong current, one of which was sailed in the morning in a light breeze, another in the beginning of the afternoon with a medium breeze, whilst the last heat of the day was sailed in a moderate to strong sea breeze.

After six races and one discard the top five is filled with big names, with multiple Tornado World Champion, Darren BUNDOCK and crew Glenn ASHBY (AUS) leading on a perfect five points. Behind them are two time Olympic medallist, Mitch BOOTH and crew Herbert DERCKSEN (NED) with the French team of Jean-Christophe MOURNIAC and Franck CITEAU (FRA) third. The current Dutch Formula 18 Champions Remco KENBEEK and Paul BROUWER lie fifth.

Following the final three qualifying races yesterday the crews will now be split into gold and silver fleets and today the first of nine scheduled championship races will begin.
