Byte World Championship 2005

Riva Del Garda, Trento, Italy

After the first day of racing was abandoned due to the lack of wind, yesterday saw the opening three races of the Byte World Championship on Lake Garda, Italy. Laser Radial Youth World Champion, Jean Baptiste BERNAZ (FRA) holds the lead but is closely followed by four sailors from Singapore.

For BERNAZ victory in the Byte Worlds will be the perfect buildup to the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship, in a fortnight's time in Busan, Korea. There he is leading the French challenge in the Laser boys event, but for now he will be fully focussed beating the 40 competitors racing on Lake Garda.

The Frenchman leads after an opening bullet followed by a sixth and a second place. MING Kwong Leong (SIN) follows in second, two points back after a bullet in race two, whilst the winner of the day's final race, Russell Glenn CHEANG (SIN) is fifth, behind HAO Jun LO (SIN) and Li David Shun HUANG (SIN).

The forecast for today did not provide the sailors with much good news, as it predicted storms and heavy downpours all day long. Three more races are still planned, and so all competitors will be at the host yacht club, Fraglia Della Vela at noon.
