AWP is not only sponsor partner of the ISAF World Sailing Games 2006. They also place emphasis on a whole team of top athletes and sailors. Andreas GERITZER (AUT), winner of the silver medal in the Laser at the 2004 Olympic Sailing Competition, joins up with Olympian and 1995 Finn World Champion Hans SPITZAUER and some of the best Austria's other top sailors to form the new Austrian Wind Power Team.
The new partnership was presented within the scope of the ISAF Grade 3 Austrian Lakes Week by BEWAG's chairmen Ing. Mag. Hans LUKITS and Mag. Josef MÜNZENRIEDER together with Austrian Power Team sports director Georg FUNDAK and ISAF World Sailing Games 2006 general manager Koloman WATZEK.
'We are Austria's largest wind power producer and we belong to the top players in Europe,' explained LUKITS. 'If wind specialists cooperate, that means tailwind for all,' added MÜNZENRIEDER.
The AWP Team is formed of runners up in the recent Tornado Youth World Championship Thomas ZAJAC and Thomas CZAJKA, 420 campaigners Marie STEINTHALER and Nora STEINTHALER, 2004 runner up in the Zoom 8 World Championship Lisa STADLER, Viktoria HOFBAUER, Laser Radial sailor Veronika HAID, Olympic star GERITZER, and SPITZAUER.
According to LUKITS, 'This results in a balanced team. But the most important thing for me is the support of the young sailors because this is in accordance to our corporate philosophy: To look ahead and think of tomorrow.'
