Three New Records Ratified

Francis JOYON's (FRA) 24 hours single-handed distance run, Geronimo's Round Australia and Thomas COVILLE's Cadiz to San Salvador single-handed record have all been ratified by the World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC).
In newsletter number 97 John REED, the secretary to the WSSRC announced the ratification of the following three new world records:

World Record: 24 hours outright single-handed
Yacht: Idec
Name: Francis JOYON (FRA)
Dates: 2-3 July 2005
Start time: 1500 hours 2 July
Finish time: 1500 hours 3 July
Distance claimed: 542. 7 nm
Average speed: 22.6 knots

World Record: Around Australia outright
Yacht: Geronimo
Name: Olivier DE KERSAUSON (FRA) and eleven crew
Dates: 21 June-9 July 2005
Start time: 22:27:24 hours 21 June
Finish time: 11:24:29 hours 9 July
Elapsed time: 17 days, 12 hours, 57 minutes and 5 seconds
Average speed: 15.44 knots

World Record: Cadiz to San Salvador. Single handed outright.
Yacht: Sodebo
Name: Thomas COVILLE (FRA)
Dates: 28 June-8 July 2005.
Start time: 08:40:04 hours 28 June
Finish time: 20:30:50 hours 8 July
Elapsed time: 10 days, 11 hours, 50 minutes and 46 seconds
Average speed: 15.41 knots
