Vaurien World Championship 2005
Sanxenxo, Spain

Spain's Javi PORTO and Antón Alberto MARTÍN raised the Vaurien World title for the second year in succession after an impressive display of sailing in Sanxenxo, Spain.
A year ago the two Spaniards claimed the World Championship crown in Punta del Este, Uruguay, and began the 2005 Championship as favourites and sailing on their home waters. The pair did not disappoint, ending with top three finishes in all but two of the nine races, and scoring three bullets along the way.

'We are very happy,' exclaimed a delighted PORTO. 'It is the second time that we have been named World Champions, and this time on home waters. I think that today we sailed very correctly, without risks, to take advantage of the lead we had accumulated throughout the previous days. It is fantastic to win the Championship title in one of the best fleets in the world.'

Fellow Spaniards Francisco Javier SERRANO and Car Them FRANCES were the only team able to stay with PORTO and MARTÍN for the entire Championship, ending it just six points behind them. Italy's Frame FACCENDA and Francesco GRANCHI managed to break the Spanish stranglehold on the top five by claiming third place overall.
