After their recent success they lie seventh in the medal table. However a good performance by the team in Busan could see them rise above both Spain and the USA into the top five places.
The team's last gold medal was won in 1994 by Amelie LUX in the Mistral girls event and the German challenge in the event this year looks strong as well. Wiebke SRADNICK narrowly missed out on a medal in last year's ISAF Youth Worlds and has already had a string of impressive results on the senior tour with top five places in both the ISAF Grade 1 Kieler Woche in Kiel, Germany and the ISAF Grade 1 Holland Regatta in Medemblik. The competition for SRADNICK, competing in her third Championship, will be tough, with Spain's Youth World team featuring current Mistral World Champion Blanca MANCHON.
Germany's entrant in the Mistral boys event, Toni STADLER, also put in good performances in Kiel and Medemblik finishing 13 and 14 respectively. All of the German team appeared at the recent regatta in Kiel and aside from SRADNICK and STADLER, the 420 girls team of Jenna WOLF and Teresa HEMMETER put in the star performance. They finished second in the open 420 fleet just two points behind the winning Indian team of Farokh TARAPORE and Vikas KAPILA. WOLF and HEMMETER will be even more encouraged by their performance relative to the 420 boys team of Nico KÖHLER and Jannik FRITZ who finished Kiel in twelfth place, 17 points behind the girls' team.
