Knickerbocker Cup 2005
Port Washington, New York, USA

The Knickerbocker Yacht Club in Port Washington, New York, USA will once again more into match racing mode in August with the 2005 ISAF Grade 2 Knickerbocker Cup from 24-28 August. This year the Knickerbocker Foundation will be partnering with Abilities!, a nonprofit organization which develops education and training programmes to assist adults and children with disabilities, who will be the beneficiary of the 2005 event.
The invitation only event, which was first held in 1982, will host twelve teams from around the world who will compete in J/105's in one on one matches similar to the America's Cup format. All racing will take place on Manhasset Bay in western Long Island Sound. Skippers registered to date include Martin ANGSELL (SWE), Christian HAMILTON (GBR), Mark CAMPBELL-JAMES (GBR), Scott DICKSON (USA), Peter WIBROE (DEN), Laurie JURY (NZL), Terry MCLAUGHLIN (CAN), Simon MINOPRIO (NZL) and number nine sailor in the ISAF World Match Race Rankings, Ian WILLIAMS (GBR).

The Knickerbocker Foundation has named Abilities!, formerly the National Centre for Disability Services, an independent, multi-faceted nonprofit organization based in Albertson, New York, as the beneficiary of the 2005 Knickerbocker Cup. Abilities! partners with more than 200 regional and national corporations that hire people with disabilities, and provides technology and consultation services to educational entities and governments around the world. Abilities! also operates the Henry Viscardi School, a K-12 New York State-accredited school for 240 children with severe physical and medical disabilities.
