Swedish Match Cup 2005

Marstrand, Sweden

Malin MILLBOURN and Team Santa Maria beat the defending champion Marie BJÖRLING (SWE) to win the Swedish Match Cup 2005. Over in the men's event the final takes place today after the semi-finals between Magnus HOLMBERG and Peter HOLMBERG and Dean BARKER against Peter GILMOUR.

BJÖRLING reached the final by defeating number one sailor in the ISAF World Match Race Rankings, Claire LEROY (FRA), 3-1 in their semi final. Whilst 2003 World Champion Malin MILLBOURN (SWE) despatched Linda RAHM (SWE) in the other semi.

MILLBOURN qualified to sail at the event by finishing sixth at the Ladies Cup in Skovshoved and has not competed on the women's circuit since 2003 - a triumphant return for the 2003 World Champion and 2003 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year nominee. MILLBOURN's crew were Karin DAHLBERG, Anna SKARENHED, Lotta HARRYSSON, Nina BARNE och Marie ÖBERG.

Dean BARKER (NZL), of Emirates Team New Zealand reached the semi-final by defeating Bertrand PACE (FRA)- BMW Oracle Racing whilst Peter GILMOUR (AUS) - Pizza-La Sailing Team despatched 2004 ISAF Match Racing World Champion Ed BARID (USA) - Alinghi 2-1. BARKER and GILMOUR will face each other in the semi-final and meet either Peter HOLMBERG (ISV) - Alinghi or Magnus HOLMBERG (SWE) - Victory Challenge in the final later today.
