ISAF World Sailing Games 2006
Lake Neusiedl, Austria

The Organizing Committee for the ISAF World Sailing Games 2006 is celebrating as they move a step closer in their aim to gain the European Union's support for their "Volunteers as a common part of World Sailing Games 2006" project.
An important part of the European Union is the support and promotion of youth projects, which take place within or across nations. The selection of these projects is made in Brussels, with only a few successful applicants every year.

The chances of the ISAF World Sailing Games becoming the first sport event in Austria ever selected by the EU are increasing, after the Austrian national agency JUGEND (YOUTH) selected the project to nomination to Brussels last week.

The concept of the ISAF World Sailing Games project went through a strict evaluation which the organizers believe vindicated it's careful preparation. The different requirements of the EU, intercultural learning, interchange of experience between young people of different origin and cultures and the relationship between young people from the member states were all key features of the project.

Koloman WATZEK, World Sailing Games General Manager, announced, 'We are really pleased to succeed the inspection and to be selected as an admittance organization. It's an affirmation to our efforts and proves the significance of the ISAF World Sailing Games at the Lake Neusiedl.'

Project manager of the World Sailing Games Organizing team, Helmut CZASNY remarked, 'We want to invite all volunteers in the context of the EU programme 'youth4europe', to help and to become part of the ISAF World Sailing Games family. We created a basis, to tie up the strict requirements and to realize them together with the Landesjugendreferat of Burgenland.'

The volunteer project will run for five weeks, with ten days of preparation, before the ten days of competition during the World Sailing Games from 10-20 May, with the remaining time following the Games.

'This project should be another brick in the wall to organize a unique and marvellous sailing event. The volunteers from all over Europe will make the sailing festival more and more colourful,' continued CZASNY.

The quest for volunteers in the 25 European countries has already started. 'We're hoping for many declarations. If so, we can be sure that the EU will give their blessings to the project, on November the first,' CZASNY said.
