LEROY Still Unbeaten In St. Petersburg
Defending champion Claire LEROY (FRA) had another excellent day at the ISAF Grade 1 Rolex Osprey Cup in St. Petersburg, Florida, USA, winning all five of her matches to remain the only unbeaten competitor. With two flights of the first round robin remaining, 2003 ISAF Women's Match Racing World Champion Malin MILLBOURN (SWE) and Giulia CONTI (ITA) are providing the Frenchwomen with her stiffest challenge.
Excellent conditions greeted the ten skippers in the morning with ten knots of breeze from the northeast.
LEROY made most of the time on the water defeating Arabella DENVIR (IRL),
CONTI, Rachel SILVERSTEIN (USA), Elizabeth
KRATZIG (USA) and Sandy
HAYES (USA).
CONTI recovered from her loss to the leader of the ISAF World Match Race Rankings in impressive fashion, overcoming
MILLBOURN before going on to defeat Anna
TUNNICLIFFE (USA) and DENVIR.
Once again the breeze diminished slowly and by the afternoon had totally disappeared, leaving two flights of the round robin to be completed this morning, with the match between MILLBOURN and LEROY looking particularly fascinating.
