Internationaux de France de Match Racing 2005
Pornichet, France

The weather conditions yesterday made it possible for the Race Committee run the last matches of the round robin in the morning and the semi-finals in the afternoon.
The public were offered a fantastic spectacle as the teams fought it out to make the semi-finals. Eventually it was Eugeniy NEUGODNIKOV (RUS) and Ian WILLIAMS (GBR) who were succesfull and took the ticket to the final.

WILLIAMS faced up against ISAF ranked number seven sailor, Sebastian COL (FRA) whilst NEUGODNIKOV who is ranked at number twelve faced Matteo SIMONCELLI (ITA), ranked just one place below him.

SIMONCELLI was the favourite following the round robin as he had ten wins and only one loss and went into the first of his matches with NEUGODNIKOV fighting hard. A win in the first match following good starting tactics was however short lived and he was unable to maintain his advantage. In the third match, SIMONCELLI tried to force a penalty against the Russian but the plan did not pay off and he had to concede victory to NEUGODNIKOV. The 23 year old Russian promised an excellent competition between himself and WILLIAMS today!

COL and WILLIAMS brawled bitterly during their semi-final with many spectactors gathered to watch the intense matches. WILLIAMS relentlessly kept up the attack and managed to destablise COL to take the victory.

The final today promises to be an exciting affair and there will also be a petit final between SIMONCELLI and COL to decide third and fourth places.

The Manu Minard Trophy will be presented to the winners at 1600 hours local time.
