KOCH Adds European Title To World Crown
Soling European Championship 2005
On 12 August, the final day of the Soling European Championship in Medemblik, Netherlands did not get off to a promising start with a complete lack of wind. However the wind returned and combined with bright sunshine, with the result another good sailing day. It ended with World Champions Roman KOCH, Maxl KOCH and Gregor BORNEMANN (GER) adding the European title to their list of 2005 honours.
The conditions where favourable for the Hungarians Georgy WOSSOLA, Peter NEMETH and Karoly VEZER who won the last race of the event. The Dutch team of Johan OFFERMANS, Hans ZIJLSTRA and Bas DUSEE were second and there was a surprising third place in the shape of the German team of Jan Carl KOCHEN, Bernd DEERTZ and Alexander HOLL.
KOCH, KOCH and BORNEMANN did not start the final race, after already having secured the title with top five finishes in all of the previous six races, including four bullets. Victory for WOSSOLA, NEMETH and VEZER allowed them to squeeze into second place, a point ahead of the Norwegian team of Dag USTERUD, Arne OTTESTAD and Eskil GOLDENG who could only manage fifth place in the final race.
