Anglo Irish Bank Etchells European Championship 2005
Howth, County Dublin, Ireland

Nils RAZMILOVIC (GBR) won the Anglo Irish Bank Etchells European Championship in Howth, Ireland on Monday after a very close contest with his brother Ante. The final race was set up to be a tense affair with only a couple of points separating the top two.
Some initial dueling before the start was short lived and as racing got underway the top contenders got on with the business of winning the race. Local sailor and one of the founders of the Etchells class in Ireland, Anthony SHANKS led for most of the race after a right hand wind shift gave him the lead on the first leg. However this was not to last and three boats passed the Irish crew before the finish. Ante RAZMILOVIC needed to win and have two boats between him and his brother Nils in this final race, but at the finish his win was not enough, Nils finished second on the day but secured the overall European title by a single point.

Top Irish boat was Galert, sailed by Dan O'GRADY, Raz BESHOFF and Ben O'DONOGHUE. They finished sixth overall, and were closely followed by the COLLINS' Mel, Killian and father Kieran, in seventh and Anthony SHANKS in eighth, sailing with his sister Diana and Mark DELANEY.

The class now looks forward to the World Championships next week in San Francisco, USA. Representatives from Howth Yacht Club will be travelling to the US to present a bid to host the event themselves in 2009.
