Third was ITA 201 with Piero ROMEO, Andrea MARAMAI and Fabio PICCIONI, scoring a second and a fourth, and fourth place went to ITA 255 sailed by Fabio CURINI, Massimo CURATOLO and Riccardo TURI, who did not compete in race one and finished third in race two.
The Solings had their own start in a fleet of 45 IMS yachts enjoying the good sailing conditions in two two-hour races.
The Winter Championship in Punta Ala (the well known sailing spot nine miles north of Castiglione, where the 1996 Soling Worlds took place) will continue with three more races scheduled for February 5, 6 and 19. In March and April the Soling fleet will continue their training for the Worlds in the water of Castiglione.
The 2005 Soling World Championship will take place from 20-27 May in Castiglione is attracting a big fleet. Four months before the event already 21 boats from nine countries have entered the Championship, including defending champion Warburg from Argentina.
