Jochen SCHÜMANN Wins His Second Title

5.5 Metre World Championship 2005

The 2005 5.5 Metre World Championship concluded yesterday in Sydney and it was <i>Artemis XII</i> skippered by Ronald PIEPER and Jochen SCHÜMANN who have won the title.

Ten races were completed of which Artemis won six, finished second in two, third in one - a scoreline so good that they did not compete in Race Ten. Two discards were counted and Artemis finished the Championship with just ten points, twelve ahead of second placed finisher Addam3, skippered by Johan GULLICHEN.

Addamm3 also had a consistent series and despite their OCS in Race Nine which they followed up with a bullet in Race Ten, were far enough ahead of the third placed boat, Ali Baba. Skippered by Bruno and Flavio MARAZZI and one of the pre-event favourites, Ali Baba finsihed with 28 points after discarding a DSQ from Race Three and their other worst result, sixth.

Schümann also won the gold at the 2001 5.5 Metre World Championship in Flensburg.

In the Classic Division, the Italian boat Carabella skippered by Alfredo DELLI took the top spot and in the Evolution Division, it was Australia's Goddam skippered by Robert FIELDING.
