Great Britain

The dream of rigging up a charity to promote the sport of sailing for deaf and hard of hearing people has now finally rigged its sails and set to sail as Deaf Sailing UK.

On 2 October 2004, at the London Corinthians Sailing Club in Hammersmith the crew of Deaf Sailing UK was formally elected. Andrew BUOY as Secretary, Tina LANNIN as Treasurer, and the remaining Committee Members: Fiona ROBERTSON, Simon TERRY, Mike MASON, Melanie CLARK, Andrew TAYLOR and Mike ASTON.

Deaf Sailing UK aims to promote sailing and other water sports under the aspirations of RYA by working alongside RYA Sailability. Development and training will be the main focus of Deaf Sailing UK by encouraging the deaf and hard of hearing people to take up sailing or other water sport, develop their skills and attain RYA recognised qualifications. Deaf Sailing UK also offers sailing opportunities/courses through other sailing organisations or schools.
